Introduction
Amanda Cullin is a Michigan artist with one foot in the natural world and the other in a bright, imaginative interior. She studied Environmental Studies and Sustainability, works on a small organic vegetable farm, and spends her studio time building whimsical scenes with colored pencil.
Her subjects reflect the details that hold her attention: the flora and fauna of the Midwest, the personalities of animals, and the visual energy of colorful rooms. The result is illustrative work that feels both observed and invented.
Finding the Right Medium

Amanda grew up with a creative spirit and a mother who encouraged her to paint, but she did not begin pursuing art seriously until her early twenties. In 2022, she tried colored pencils on toned tan paper and immediately connected with the way the colors lifted from the surface. She has continued experimenting with that combination ever since.
The medium rewards patience and layering, but Amanda's process also depends on knowing when to step away. When she feels stuck, she takes time off and goes for a walk in nature. Distance clears the pressure, and new ideas tend to arrive once she is moving again.
A Personal Piece
Much of Amanda's recent practice has centered on commissions, including portraits and narrative scenes made for other people. That makes Our House especially important. She created it for herself, drawing inspiration from the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young song of the same name. The piece gave her room to follow a personal idea without a client brief.
At the time of her submission, Amanda was also drawing a commissioned scene of two cats eating at a café in Sicily. It is a good example of the combination that defines her work: recognizable subjects, a specific story, and enough color and detail to create a world around them.
Selected Work

Printing with The Stackhouse
Amanda sells Stackhouse prints through her website, giving customers an accessible way to collect her work and creating income that supports her studio practice. Her 2026 plans also included bringing prints to her first local art markets. After trying several online print providers, she chose The Stackhouse for the quality of the finished work.
Her go-to presentation is a Giclée print on 100% cotton photo rag, a paper that complements the soft texture and layered color of her pencil drawings.
Artists planning a print release can explore Giclée fine art prints or compare paper options with a free media sample set.
Advice for Emerging Artists
Amanda's advice is to keep experimenting and stay consistent. Finding a style took years, and the style continues to evolve. Earlier work can feel uncomfortable in hindsight, but it remains part of the path. Not every new piece has to surpass the last one for the practice to move forward.
